The poor German Shepherd dog screamed like a person when he saw the ocean for the first time.
During the first five years of Herschel the German Shepherd's life, he endured significant hardships. He spent a large portion of those years chained up in a backyard filled with dirt. When rescuers discovered him, they noticed that his teeth were severely worn down because he had attempted to eat through the metal chain in his desire for freedom.
In the end, Herschel's previous owner did the right thing by turning him over to Michelson Found Animals. The dog received the care and medical attention he sorely needed from the animal rescue.
Over the next six months, Herschel was adopted and returned to the shelter multiple times. The dog struggled in his new homes because he had spent his early years chained up without any socialization.
Herschel needed to be placed in a devoted home, according to Michelson Found Animals. So they made a call to Rocky Kanaka, the show's host. This program gives dogs who have experienced hardships a nice day out.
Rocky bought Herschel a ton of delicious food, including a tasty dog cupcake, for his enjoyable day out. Herschel also played with Rocky in the snow, and he enjoyed it!
Herschel completely captured the heart of one Dog's Day Out viewer, who wanted to adopt him. Rocky and Herschel drove to the viewer's new residence in Los Angeles.
On their way, Rocky made a stop at a beach so Herschel could see the ocean for the first time in his life. Rocky and Herschel strolled onto the sand, and Herschel started barking in pure excitement. Rocky was ecstatic to see how content this adorable dog was!
They both enjoyed playing in the waves and sand. While they frolicked in the warm water, Rocky had a big grin on his face.
He loves it, and I won't let him leave because, for all I know, he might swim to San Diego.
Herschel is now content to live in Los Angeles with his new family, where he has unlimited access to the ocean. With everything he's been through, this adorable dog deserves to spend as much time in the sea as he wants. He just can't get enough of the ocean!
Despite having a terrible start in life, Herschel is still a wonderful and resilient dog. Check out the video below to learn more about Herschel and see him having fun in the water.
