Isumu was a canine who had never known love. He had been left to fend for himself on the side of the road, close to a shelter.
His long nails were agonizing for him, and every step he took caused him pain. He had a broad stripe and blood around his neck from the shackles that had once held him. He smelled peculiarly of rotten meat and had rabies wounds all over his body.
Isumu still had a spark of life in his eyes and the capacity to feel fear, humility, and hope despite all of his suffering. He pleaded to God for someone to intervene and save him from his torment.
A volunteer discovered him inside the shelter and brought Isumu to safety. There, he received medical attention and a cozy bed to sleep in. Isumu was cleaned up and given a bath, and for the first time in a very long time, he received nourishing food and drink, and experienced feelings of love and care.
By Day 10, Isumu's condition had improved significantly. His injuries started to heal, and he began to regrow fur. His eyes began to glow with joy and contentment, and he stopped smelling like rotting flesh.
On Day 80, a wonderful family who had been searching for a dog to adopt finally arrived at the shelter. The moment they laid eyes on Isumu, they fell in love with him instantly.
They knew he was the dog for them because they could sense the strength and tenacity that lay beneath his rugged exterior. Isumu was carried home by his new family, where he was showered with affection.
He was no longer required to endure his suffering in silence or wait for a rescuer. Finally, he had a place to call his own and a loving family.
