Already at the airport, during check-in, Jared and Kristi Owens noticed that one of their suitcases was 5 pounds heavier than planned.

When they opened the suitcase, a chihuahua named Icky calmly stepped out.

Owners have noticed before that the dog likes to dig into clothes.

But they didn’t expect to see Icky among the things in the suitcase, at the check-in counter for a Southwest Airlines flight.

The couple was very lucky and they were able to get on vacation.

One of the airport workers, Cathy Cook, took the dog in and agreed to take care of it while the owners were on vacation.

Jared Owens admits that he was afraid of accusations: at the airport they might think that they want to secretly smuggle the dog to Las Vegas.

However, they were sympathetic to the situation and did everything possible so that the owners of the dog could fly away on their own flight.

The National Canine Research Association of America states that Chihuahuas burrow instinctively.

Small dogs need this skill to find food and hide from large predators.

Many Chihuahua owners have noticed that their dogs can crawl under piles of clothes or blankets and sit there so quietly that they are hard to find.
